City of Conover Honored with 2025 HIRE Vets Gold Medallion Award by U.S. Department of Labor

Home Posted on November 11, 2025

The city of Conover has been selected to receive the 2025 HIRE Vets Gold Medallion Award from the U.S. Department of Labor, recognizing the city’s outstanding commitment to recruiting, employing and retaining America’s veterans. Conover is one of 887 public and private-sector employers nationwide to earn this honor.

The Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans (HIRE Vets) Medallion Program, established by the HIRE Vets Act of 2017, is the only federal-level award that acknowledges employers for exceptional achievement in veteran employment. The Gold Medallion distinction highlights Conover’s ongoing commitment to its veteran workforce, which represents over 20% of the city’s employees. This reflects Conover’s deep dedication to hiring individuals whose service, skills and leadership continue to strengthen the community.

The official award was announced on Nov. 7 during a national ceremony hosted by the Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS). As part of the recognition, Conover will receive an official certificate and be featured on the national HIRE Vets Awardee Map at HIREVets.gov/Awardees.

Recipients of the 2025 HIRE Vets Medallion Award meet rigorous standards for employment and veteran integration, including veteran hiring and retention percentages; availability of veteran-specific resources; leadership programming for veterans; dedicated human resource initiatives; and competitive pay, benefits, and tuition assistance programs.

The City of Conover encourages other local employers to learn more about the HIRE Vets Medallion Program and consider participating in the initiative to further support veteran employment.
