The City of Conover has secured more than $1.29 million in competitive state grant funding in the past 45 days, bringing major infrastructure improvements, economic development investment, and long-term taxpayer savings to the community.

The funding supports projects ranging from job creation and pedestrian safety to critical wastewater infrastructure, allowing the City to move forward with key improvements while minimizing costs to local taxpayers.

• The City will receive $655,000 from the North Carolina Department of Transportation to construct new sidewalks and pedestrian improvements along Conover Boulevard E, expanding safe walking access along one of the city’s primary corridors and Connecting City Park to nearby neighborhoods.
• The North Carolina Department of Public Safety has awarded Conover $542,000 to design and engineer a new influent pump station at the City’s wastewater treatment plant. The project protects critical infrastructure from flooding and supports the long-term reliability of the city’s sewer system.
• A North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Building Reuse Grant for $100,000 will support the renovation of an existing industrial building in Conover, helping bring new jobs and additional economic activity.

City officials say the recent funding reflects Conover’s continued focus on aggressively pursuing outside funding opportunities. “These projects strengthen the foundation of our community,” says Mayor Kyle Hayman, “By securing grant funding whenever possible, we can invest in jobs, infrastructure, and safety improvements while offsetting their cost to our taxpayers. Credit for securing these grants goes to our fantastic staff and the leadership of our department heads.”
